Intermediate Salsa Class

Beyond the basic techniques, Salsa is a living art that continues to evolve, absorbing the influence of other dances. The result is a fizzing fusion of Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican flavours.

Our Intermediate Salsa course will lead you through the best bits of each style and broaden your overall experience of the dance world.

Intermediate Salsa represents the crossover line to becoming an advanced student; you need an intermediate level of style to join or else you're likely to get lost in a Salsa maze.

Ideally, you'll have attended a Salsa class at City Academy or a 1-year course at another school. If you aren't sure please feel free to contact the teacher.

This course is intense: the Salsa's serious, but always fun!

Salsa Dance Skills Development

Intermediate Salsa is designed to take you to the brink of being the complete salsa dancer, you'll find your skill levels start to soar as the salsa spirit runs through your body.

Exact content may differ depending on your needs and course duration, but topics generally covered include:

• Acquiring creativity and confidence in Salsa

• Becoming fully aware of the Salsa rhythm and the Salsa beat

• Developing your own Salsa combinations

• Learning complicated patterns, increasing the number of moves and extending the amount of time before a pattern is repeated

• Adapting to different partners with different styles

• Warm up/ Footwork/ Partner work/ Combinations

• Salsa rhythm exercises

• Review of the moves from the Salsa Improver 2 course

• Mambo jazz combinations

• Shines in partner work

• Dip combinations in couple

• Cross body lead advance turns combinations

• Nights out dancing in Salsa clubs

Something to Think About

You know the drill by now. Proper footwear is needed:

Ladies
Court shoes with a small strong heel - NO stilettos, sandals, platforms or trainers.

Men
Leather-soled shoes with a slight heel - NO trainers.
