Improvers 2 Tap Dancing Class

Our Improvers 2 Tap Dancing Class directly follows on from our Improvers 1 Tap Dancing Class. However, if you haven't tapped since childhood but can still remember your single shuffle time step this might be the class for you.

For current City Academy students, you will probably have mastered the basic steps by now and will be ready to put those steps together to make short routines and exercises.

The pace of this class will be faster than the improvers 1, but not too fast, we'll make sure there's enough time to master the combinations and build your tap dancing confidence.

Tap Dancing Skills Development

Our Improvers 2 Tap Dancing Class is designed to develop your improvers skills even further, but without losing that fun, easy going atmosphere.

Exact content may differ depending on the students' needs and course duration, but topics generally covered include:

• A further understanding of posture and awareness of your body in performance and space.

• Demonstrating increased isolations of the body and feet to define movement and sound.

• Build and develop more advanced choreographies.

• Physical warm-up / cool-down

• Further work on posture, co-ordination exercises, weight transference

• Advancement on footwork combinations

• Demonstrate co-ordination of arms / feet / head as dance-moves

• Informal Showcase for family and friends

• Friendly feedback throughout

Something to Think About

You'll need to dig those old tap shoes out from under the bed:

Footwear

Tap shoes are necessary for rhythm and sounds and overall feel and sound for tap dance. Hard bottomed shoes are acceptable for first few weeks, but tap shoes are recommended. (Specialised stockists such as Gamba Freed and Dancia which have outlets in and around London can provide appropriate footwear)

Clothing

Baggy clothes and tracksuits, tights and leotards or jazz pants are recommended. Work clothes, jeans and tight fitting clothes are not suitable.

Improvers 2 Tap Dancing Course Progression

City Academy recommends you to take this course twice with different teachers before progressing to the next level.
