Designed for all abilities and levels of interest, City Academy’s acting courses have been designed for the committed acting enthusiast through to those simply seeking to increase their confidence in communicating.
All classes are taught by experienced professionals from the theatre, film and television industry and offer the opportunity to learn skills in a supportive, fun environment.
City Academy acting classes are organised along two different lines:
- Core acting classes in four different levels with an element of progression
- Focussed classes that cover a particular acting technique in greater depth
Core Acting Classes
At each new level you will deepen your knowledge and practice of acting techniques and explore some new ones, as well as testing out your skills on a new text, each one progressively more challenging.
This course offers a thorough and practical introduction to Acting and is most appropriate for those with little to no acting experience. A range of skills will be introduced and practiced using a Contemporary Text.

This course is for students who want to consolidate their basic acting technique or for those with previous experience that was some time in the past. The skills from Beginners will be reviewed and developed further. Students will be introduced to different schools of thought about acting techniques and performance styles. The skills will be applied using a text from the Absurdist tradition.

This course represents a step change in the skills explored and the challenge to the student over the Beginners and Improvers with new techniques being introduced. Students will work with a text set in a particular time in history and learn about the wider historical and cultural context of the play.

This course is for the more serious-minded amateurs which also works towards an end of term showcase. Also beneficial for those seeking to join the industry professionally or indeed those already working professionally, who would like to take part in a showcase to increase their visibility in the industry. Students will find the repetition of this course invaluable as the material and challenges will change as the individual actor develops.
