Advanced Acting Course

Our Advanced Acting Course is the highest level of acting training offered at City Academy.

Sound a bit heavy? Don't fret. Advanced Acting is delivered in the fun and practical City Academy style that you have come to expect.

Ran over 7 weeks with two classes per week (Thursday & Monday) the course culminates in an informal presentation of material in class for an invited audience, including a small selection of amateur theatre directors which may enable students to build relationships with the amateur and fringe theatre community.

Acting Skills Development

Our Advanced Acting Course is dynamic and practical and will develop acting techniques most appropriate for those who have taken City Academy's Intermediate Acting course or an equivalent elsewhere.

Exact course content may differ according to the course length and your needs but topics covered generally include:

• Developing personal presence on stage

• Exploring a range of texts from modern to classical

• Further Meisner techniques to tackle emotional scenes

• Treating the stage as arena: energy levels and personal dynamism on stage

• Detailed Stanislavski techniques to consolidate objectives

• Exploring spatial relationships on stage

• Unlocking physical ways into text via the 'Viewpoints' training methods

• Exploring Shakespearean monologues

• Finding your commercial casting range

• Mini presentation in front of an invited audience

• Rehearsal techniques that help you become more expressive

Admissions Policy

Applicants to the Advanced Acting course are via audition only. The experince you have gained must be or equivalent to our Intermediate Acting course. Those who have taken the Intermediate course should consult their teacher on their suitability and readiness for the course. Otherwise you'll end up in a tangle. Not pretty.

Those who have not completed out Intermediate course but have relevant experience, are welcome to call or email us and book an audition.

Something to think about

The Advanced Acting Course is a big step up and involves a rehearsal period from week 6 where you will be working towards your final presentation. It is essential that you are able to commit to these classes as the rest of the cast will be relying on you.

If you have a job that frequently requires you to travel or work overtime then this is likely to be incompatible with the course demands. You really need to guarantee your attendance from week 6 onward, and bear in mind that missing earlier classes may affect the teacher's ability to cast you appropriately.

Don't let that put you off, we are simply keen to ensure you and your fellow cast members benefit as much as possible from the course.

We offer a 10% discount if you book 2 or more different courses at the same time.
