Advanced Singing Lessons

Our Advanced Singing Lessons will see you hone your skills in the Estil vocal method and master a wide range of sounds and vocal styles.

You will learn how to make appropriate vocal choices and gain precise understanding of techniques such as Tilt, Twang, Speech Quality and Belt.

Once you have the singing technique licked, you'll need to polish your performance; we introduce you to character observation, inner monologue, 'actioning' and other 'acting through song' techniques ensuring your singing takes flight.

You will take on more complex harmony singing, and often be responsible for your own harmony line as well as approaching a more complex solo repertoire. Finally, you will have the opportunity to perform at least one solo and one duet in a showcase at the end of the course, and by now you'll really be ready to impress.

The Advanced Singing Course is for a maximum of 12 singers. 

Advanced Singing Skills Development

You need to have completed previous City Academy singing courses, or be a very confident harmony singer in order to take this course. It is designed to challenge accomplished singers and to polish performance and technical skill.

Of course, we guarantee good fun along side the hard musical graft.

The musical repertoire will be chosen from the Musical Theatre canon as well as pop, jazz and classical works.

Exact content may differ depending on your needs and course duration but the topics covered generally include:

• An enhanced understanding of the workings of the vocal mechanism

• Advanced work on posture and alignment, breathing and support, and appropriate use and control of voice qualities

• Developing the ability to successfully apply advanced elements of good vocal production, including the use of different vocal qualities

• Application of acting techniques and enhanced musicality - dynamics, phrasing and stylistic accuracy

• Learning a solo or duet appropriate for your voice but slightly outside your comfort zone

• Work will continue on the group song and other song ideas will be discussed

• You will work one to one on choice of solo

• Learning a second group song to be introduced - usually more complex than the first, with an emphasis on acting and 'being an individual within an ensemble'

• You will work on the solos, duets and group numbers

• 'Acting through song' will be focused upon

• Polishing and honing the material

• Run through and showcase
