Beginners Tango Classes

The Tango is a fiery, dramatic dance that expresses the dancers’ deepest passions through intense, sharp and powerful movements.  Finding its roots and early influences in the cultures of Spain and Africa; the Tango, in its modern form, actually originated in South America in the working class districts of Buenos Aires.

Dancing appropriately to the emotion and speed of a tango is extremely important to dancing tango. A good dancer is one who transmits the musicality and rhythm from the music.

Tango Nuevo and Tango de Escenario (Stage Tango) is a more theatrical form of Argentine Tango developed to suit the stage. This passionate Tango will make you sizzle on the dance floor, showcasing your sensuality, technique and flair for spectacular dancing.

Beginners Tango Skills Development

Our Beginners Tango Class is perfect for those with little or no experience, or those who have taken a few classes before.

Exact course content may differ depending on course length and your needs but topics covered will generallly include:

• Improving the posture and specifically the 'Close Embrace' to be able to dance in partnership and in proper tango frame.
• Learning the correct technique of how to follow a partner's lead during a combination of freestyle steps.
• Learning how to develop the ability to transform simple basic steps in articulated sequences with rich decoration and embellishment.
• Learning more articulated figures of Argentine Tango with and without a partner.
• Improving the ability to dance Tango sequences on faster timing with more styling.

You will also receive feedback throughout the course from your tutor.

Something to Think About

With all dance classes there are a few things you may need to consider:

Footwear and Clothing

We need you to wear suitable footwear for Tango:

Ladies
Court shoes with a small strong heel - no stilettos, sandals, platforms or trainers.

Men
Leather-soled shoes with a slight heel - no trainers.

You don't have to bring a partner to join the course.

It's hot work too, so bring a bottle of water.
