City Academy Chamber
The City Academy Chamber is an SATB mixed vocal harmony group with a repertoire covering a range of choral works and styles, with a focus on a cappella singing.
The choir provides a great way of meeting like-minded singers in a fun and friendly environment, whilst also providing an opportunity to improve your sight-singing skills and tackle complex harmonic works in a variety of musical styles, from classical to contemporary. Membership also provides the opportunity to perform at a number of events throughout the year. This includes the choir’s own dedicated concerts as well as performing as guests at some of City Academy’s other events.
If you’re interested in joining Chamber, you must attend a taster session. During the taster you will attend a regular rehearsal and meet the rest of the group. The MD will also take the opportunity to hear you sing as well as assess your suitability for the group. Following the taster, the Head of Singing will inform you via email if you have been accepted.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Umbrella Rooms, Shaftesbury Avenue.
In weekly rehearsals, you will develop in the following areas:
- Develop and refine vocal technique and dynamic choral performance
- Explore a variety of choral works and increase your repertoire knowledge
- Improve range, pitch and listening skills
- Learn about the vocal anatomy and build confidence

Who can Join?
The City Academy Chamber is open to singers of any voice type who have at least some previous choral singing experience and music theory knowledge. The choir is not suitable for absolute beginners or singers who do not read music.
Prospective members will have an informal audition at their taster with the MD, where they will be required to individually sing their respective voice part in a piece of repertoire learnt in the rehearsal, which will be in at least four part harmony.
If you do not have the experience required, we recommend you complete a Beginners Singing and Improvers Singing course before progressing to the choir.

Performances
City Academy Chamber perform in showcases and larger scale productions each year at prestigious music venues across London. Additional performances for the choir may also include community projects and live music events.
Choir Director
The company is led by experienced performer and vocal coach, Rachel Maby
Rachel trained at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. She teaches a wide repertoire, from pop to classical, and has knowledge of the technical demands of all genres.
She also performs regularly as a soloist, with recent credits including Sideshows at Grimeborn Opera Festival (Arcola Theatre) and Charlotte Brontë in Glasstown at the Arts Theatre in London.

Membership Subscription Details
Membership will cover you for all classes, rehearsals and all shows during your membership. The choir rehearses throughout the year with a three week break over the Christmas period and a one week break at Easter in the week of Easter Monday. To make membership fees more manageable, these breaks are accounted for within your monthly instalments across the year.
We offer three Membership options for our choirs:
Monthly Membership - £40 per month:
1. There is a minimum membership of three months.
2. Payments are taken via direct debit. Please follow the link in your welcome email to process this using your account number and sort code. The first payment is taken seven days after your initial sign up date and this will be your payment date each month going forward.
3. To cancel your membership; email written confirmation to info@city-academy.com at least 14 days prior to your next payment date. You can cancel your direct debit at your bank or City Academy can do so on your behalf.
Six month membership - £228.00 for 6 months:
This option will save you 5% on the equivalent monthly payments, and is non-refundable.
Annual membership - £432.00 for 12 months:
This option will save you 10% on the equivalent monthly payments, and is non-refundable.

No Venue
All City Academy tutors are experienced professionals from theatre, film/TV and performance industries. So whilst they're training you they may also be rehearsing for a West End show or working on a movie. We like that and we do believe it makes a difference in class.
