City Academy Advanced Choir

The City Academy Advanced Choir is an exclusive, audition only chamber choir, based in central London. Weekly rehearsals are held on Monday evenings with regular concerts throughout the season.

Who's the choir for?

The choir is for singers with experience, both as a soloist and a harmony singer. The choir is significantly smaller than the City Academy Central London Choir, as it always aims to have an equal number of voice types.

The musical repertoire will be mixed but draw largely from Musical Theatre and contemporary arrangements of pop/jazz as well as on traditional choral works, as well as many solo led pieces, with ensemble backing.

Auditions

Auditions are on going throughout the year, and held every week from 6.15 - 6.45.  Please email info@city-academy.com to book your place.

We are looking for strong solo singers, who are also excellent musicians.  You need to prepare a song that show your versatility and range, and be prepared to sight-read.

We currently have the following places available to start immediately:

Alto - 1 place

Tenor - 1 place (MUST have at least a top A.)

Baritone/Tenor - 1 place (Looking for higher Baritones that are comfortable on a tenor part, when needed).

There is a waiting list for all other parts, but you are welcome to audition anytime.

Choir Etiquette

As a member of the choir you do not have to commit to every rehearsal evening, however, as this is a smaller, committed group of singers, regular attendance is strongly advised.

Performance Opportunities

We anticipate there will be many performance opportunities for this new and exciting group, but to give you an idea, the City Academy Central London Choir have previously been involved in the following concerts/productions:

-  Gleek Fest The Arts Theatre, West End.

-  Christmas Shows at the Cockpit Theatre.

-  Ideal Home Exhibition.

-  The Charing Cross Theatre.

-  The Treasury Solicitors Annual Christmas Party.

-  City Academy provided choir members for the 5 *, award winning You Me Bum Bum Train, as part of the Barbican’s summer season.

-  The main stage at the South West Fest.

-  Some City Academy Choir members formed a small 8 piece choir to perform with Indie band Bombay Bicycle Club at a special sold out gig at Islington’s Union Chapel.

Advanced Choir Admission Policy

Joining the City Academy Advanced Choir is strictly by audition only. Auditions are held regularly throughout the year, so please email info@city-academy.com for the latest information.  To give you an idea of standard, students would be expected to have completed a Advanced Singing course or equivalent professional training. Previous choral experience is preferred, as in a basic ability to read music.
