City Academy Choirs
Ladies Contemporary Choir - New!
Ladies Contemporary Choir
We are delighted to announce the arrival of our all new Ladies Contemporary Choir!
Looking to rival Only Men Aloud? Come and join our ladies-only band of beauties! This is a new choir looking to celebrate the all-female repertoire for choir while breaking away from the stereotypical twee-ness, exploring pop, rock, jazz, musical theatre and anything else we can get our hands on.
Weekly rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings and regular concerts throughout the season, making theLadies Contemporary Choir one of the most exctiting London choirs around!
The classes and rehearsals are taught in a fun and supportive atmosphere. It is open for everyone, as long as you have some previous group singing experience.
Choir Etiquette
As a member of our choir you do not have to commit to every rehearsal evening, as we appreciate that people have busy lives. However, we do ask that as a concert approaches, you commit to the 4 preceding weeks of rehearsals, and of course the concert itself! If you are unable to perform in the concert you may of course still attend rehearsals as usual.
We are simply keen to make sure you get as much as possible from your choir membership.
Performance Opportunities
There are many performance opportunities within City Academy Choirs and we are delighted to have been involved in the following concerts/productions:
City Academy provided choir members for the 5 *, award winning You Me Bum Bum Train, as part of the Barbican's summer season.
The City Academy Choir performed 3 numbers at the South West Fest, and are delighted to have been asked back to perform again next year.
Some City Academy Choir members formed a small 8 piece choir to perform with Indie band Bombay Bicycle Club at a special sold out gig at Islington’s Union Chapel.
Choir Admission Policy
The choir is not suitable for absolute beginners, we recommend you complete a Beginners Singing Lesson and Improvers Singing Lesson before progressing to choir, or have some previous singing experience/training. You don’t have to be able to read music, but it helps.
If you are unsure please attend a free taster session, at the end of which you will be asked to sing a prepared song for the Musical Director, who will advise whether or not the choir is the best singing course for you.
Ladies Contemporary Choir
We are looking for fun and friendly ladies who aren’t afraid of an occasional jazz-hand, who are willing to try new things and really get involved.
As this is a growing project, we are looking for ladies of any voice type who have some experience singing in harmonies.
Classes are always held on a Tuesday night from 7.00pm - 9.00pm at the Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church.
Please email info@city-academy.com to arrange a taster/audition.
Something to Think About
A dictaphone or other portable recording device is recommended in order to record harmony lines etc. Most mobile phones come with some kind of recording facility – so please check before purchasing anything new.
You should bring a folder to class in which to put any given sheet music and a pencil to make notes on the score.
Suggested reading (optional): Singing and The Actor by Gillianne Keyes.
Choir Singing Progression
We offer a 10% discount if you book 2 or more different courses at the same time.
