Editing is a core part of the filmmaking process. Our course is a highly practical introduction to the professional editing software Final Cut Pro, ideal for beginners looking for some hands-on experience.
This course is over 5 evenings (one 3 hour class each week).
Who should take this course
Writers, directors, producers, actors, filmmakers, cinema lovers, anyone with an interest in how movies are made and wants to learn how films are put together in the cutting room.
Or anyone planning to make a film – the best preparation for making a film is to have edited one already – learn what to look out for when planning your next shoot.
Course Requirements
There are no entry requirements for joining the editing class, rushes of scenes will be provided, although if you have completed the Film Shoot Weekend either as a film-maker or an actor you should sign up for the Editing Course for the opportunity to put your own film together.
Course Outline
Using the industry standard Final Cut Pro to edit raw rushes into final scenes you’ll learn:
- Uploading rushes - referring to the logging sheets
- Managing your workspace - putting out the Bins
- Cuts and transitions - pacing time and rhythm
- Thinking about sound and vision separately
- Re-telling the story - back to the storyboard
- Filters and looks
- Music and sound effects
- Reviewing the work-arounds/amazing moments you employed during the edit and how you’d do it better/make them happen again next time you shoot
