How to Draw - Improvers

Our How to Draw - Improvers are for students who would like to develop their skills and explore drawing further. It is a good follow on class if you have already taken a How to Draw - Beginners course, or are confident with the basics of drawing.

Experiment with different materials including charcoal, water soluble colour pencils and soft colour pastels, and learn the basics of colour mixing. Improve your skills, discover the basics of the colour wheel and begin to develop your own individual style.

These sessions are a relaxing haven away from your busy week. Lose yourself in the creative buzz of the Art Loft. All materials are provided and you will receive plenty of individual attention and feedback from highly experienced tutors.

How to Draw Classes - Improvers Course Content

During our course, you will:

• Learn to draw what you see and not what you think you see
• Experiment with different media – charcoal, graphite, pen and ink, felt tip and pastels
• Create better compostions – how to set up a still life, recognise ‘the golden section’
• Learn the basics about colour mixing – using pastels and aquarelles (water-soluble coloured pencils)
• Learn how to make objects look three dimensional
• How to use grids and guide lines
• Find your favourite paper – texture, colour and quality can produce very different final results
• Become less inhibited – there will be opportunities for free and imaginative drawing
• Begin to develop your own style 

Charcoal and pastel can be messy, so bring a protective apron (there will be a few available for those who have come straight from work), or wear washable clothes!

No need to bring anything else, just yourself and your creativity! All materials including paper will be provided. Like all of our art and drawing classes, you’ll receive plenty of guidance and friendly feedback.
