Improvers Stand Up Comedy Course
Our Improvers Stand Up Comedy course is for graduates of the Beginners Stand Up Comedy Course as well as working comedians looking to up their game and break through into bigger clubs. Really, you need to have died on stage a good few times before taking the improvers.
If you have fewer than 50 gigs to your name - we advise you start with the beginners' course, or contact us for private assessment. Otherwise you'll be swimming in deep water without your snorkel.
This course is deliberately flexible so we can focus on the aspects of stand up you need to develop your act.
It's all about fine tuning your shtick!
Stand Up Comedy Skills Development
Should comedy ever get serious? Well, not really... but this course is a deep exploration of the craft behind the laughs.
Exact course content will differ according to the course length and students needs but topics covered often include:
- Writing longer sets
-
Compering
-
Using different styles of humour: political satire, musical comedy, improvised comedy, sketch and character
-
Practical advice on turning a fun hobby into a serious profession
-
Feedback for a stand up can be painfully immediate. We aim to soften the blows. Or at least deliver the blows softly.
Something to think about
Wearing comfortable clothes and bringing a bottle of water is recommended. When isn't it?
In the interest of exposing you to a range of comedy styles and approaches, typically 1 or 2 classes will be taught by guest tutors who will be professional comedians with a range of experience.
