Improvers Tango Classes

The Tango is a fiery, dramatic dance that expresses the dancers’ deepest passions through intense, sharp and powerful movements.  Finding its roots and early influences in the cultures of Spain and Africa; the Tango, in its modern form, actually originated in South America in the working class districts of Buenos Aires.

Dancing appropriately to the emotion and speed of a tango is extremely important to dancing tango. A good dancer is one who transmits the musicality and rhythm from the music.

Tango Nuevo and Tango de Escenario (Stage Tango) is a more theatrical form of Argentine Tango developed to suit the stage. Not necessary but often it includes embellishments, acrobatics, and solo moves.

The passionate Tango will make you sizzle on the dance floor, showcasing your sensuality, technique and flair for spectacular dancing.

Improvers Tango Skills Development

Our Improvers Tango Class is perfect for those who have completed our Beginners Tango course or those whom have had Tango experience in the past.

The course will focus on styling; especially in a development of Tango footwork with more acrobatic steps and solo moves. All while dancing appropriately to the emotion and speed in Tango.

Exact course content may differ depending on course length and your needs but topics covered will generallly include:

• Improving posture to be able to dance in partnership on the dance floor. Specifically the 'Close Embrace' and the proper Tango frame.

• Refining the correct technique of how to follow a partner's lead during a combination of freestyle steps.

• Developing the ability to transform basic steps into articulated sequences with Tango decoration and embellishment.

• Learning advance dance figures of Argentine Tango such as Foot Push, Sandwich and Kicks, Lapiz, Colgada with Ladies and Male embellishments.

• Learning more articulated figures of Argentine Tango with and without partner.

• Improving the ability to dance Tango sequences on faster timing with more styling.

• Learning how to combine all the figures studied during the course in a unique and fluid routine.

During the course - the teacher will challenge students with some acrobatic routines of Tango Nuevo and Tango de Escenario from famous movies like: Moulin Rouge, Take the Lead, Last Tango In Paris etc.

You will also receive feedback throughout the course from your tutor.

With all dance classes you may need to consider:

Footwear and Clothing

We need you to wear suitable footwear for Tango:

Ladies
Court shoes with a small strong heel - no stilettos, sandals, platforms or trainers.

Men
Leather-soled shoes with a slight heel - no trainers.

You don't have to bring a partner to join the course.

It's hot work too, so bring a bottle of water.
