Intermediate Musical Theatre Class Description
The course will contain material that is much more complex than that of Levels 1 and 2. Examples of the type of material that will be used are: Jason Robert Brown and Stephen Sondheim. Students will also be looking at scenes into songs with more emphasis on acting, rather than just dancing and singing. Leading roles will be explored as well as characterisation and technique.
To attend this course you will have completed a City Academy Level 2 course in Musical Theatre, Singing or Dance. Otherwise places can be booked via an audition or evidence of previous study/professional engagements.
Intermediate Musical Theatre Skills Development
- The further integration of singing, dancing and acting. Depending on course numbers, the course will focus on putting on large ensemble pieces, small ensemble solos, duets and trios.
- Tap and further script work will be covered

How our Intermediate Musical Theatre Classes are Taught
Students will be taught Musical Theatre through:
- Explanation, demonstration and practise
- Group work and some solo to consolidate learning
Additional costs
Dictaphone or other portable recording device. To record harmony lines etc. (Most mobile phones come with some kind of recording facility – so please check before purchasing anything new.)
Students should bring a folder to class to put any sheet music you are given, and a pencil to make notes on your score.

Intermediate Musical Theatre Course Content
(Example: 6 Week Course)
Week 1
Introduction to basic techniques via thorough learning of singing and dance warm up exercises that will be used every week. Application of those basic techniques into the beginnings of a song & dance routine.
Week 2
Warm-up and further technique teaching. The material to make up the showcase will be decided upon and intense learning of vocal material begins
Week 3 & 4
Rehearsing and honing the material for the showcase – more material will be added, as it becomes clear as to the progress of the group.
Week 5
Refining the material
Week 6
Final cleaning/dress rehearsal and performance
Exact course content may differ as it is often tailored to the students taking the course. The length of your course will also affect the material covered but generally it will follow this structure.
Feedback to Confirm Progress
Students will receive regular verbal feedback from the tutor throughout the course.

Musical Theatre Teacher: Vikki Stone (DipRAM LRAM)
Vikki Stone is an accomplished Musical Theatre and Stand Up Comedian. Vikki trained as a singer and singing teacher at the Royal Academy of Music - under the instruction of west-end vocal guru Mary Hammond. She studied Estil Technique (a vocal method embraced by top Drama Schools and Conservatories) under vocal expert Anne-Marie Speed. Her professional career includes credits and awards in; Beauty and the Beast; The Ladies Who Lunch; Oklahoma! and the Last Comic Standing Season 5. Vikki's extensive musical training and passion for the stage creates a brilliant feeding ground for her students to thrive and grow as individuals and performers, whilst having fun at the same time.
Musical Theatre Teacher: Rebecca Wicking
Rebecca trained full-time at the Sylvia Young Theatre School from the age of 11 followed by a 3 year Musical Theatre Diploma at Laine Theatre Arts.Professional credits include: Hair (English Theatre), Rent (The Garrick Theatre), Chess (Royal Albert Hall), Annie Get Your Gun (Union Theatre, Lead singer onboard P&O's MV Aurora.
Rebecca's love and knowledge of Musical Theatre makes both a professional and enjoyable workshop for both Rebecca and her students.
For 10 and 12 week courses you are welcome to join up to Week 3.
For 6 and 8 week courses you are welcome to join up to Week 2.
