Beginners Pop & Rock Singing Lessons
Drawing on material from 5 decades of Pop and Rock, there's something for everyone in our Pop and Rock Singing Course. It is a mixed ability course suitable for complete beginners, and those with some experience looking to develop your pop skills.
This course is upbeat, bubbly and brilliant fun. What else would you expect from a mixture of City Academy's teaching style and the best pop music has to offer?
You will be taught in groups to get your confidence up, but will sometimes be asked to sing solo to check progress.
Where else can you sing the songs you love while picking up the tips of the pop trade on the way? City Academy is the place to be.
Pop & Rock Singing Skills Development
The course is taught in a playful manner with lots of opportunities to practise the skills and songs as you go along. Whether you are keen to deepen your pop knowledge or simply looking for karaoke kudos this course is for you.
Exact content may differ depending on students' needs and course duration, but topics generally covered include:

Understanding the vocal mechanism

Understanding how to achieve a good quality pop/rock vocal performance while using the voice in a safe and healthy manner

Application of essential microphone techniques

Learning singing techniques through warm up exercises

Application of those techniques to learning a pop song together often an Elvis track

Introduce a second and third song - previously, Van Morrison's 'Brown Eyed Girl' and Abba's 'Dancing Queen'

Working on a more complex group number and individual progress check

You will learn two more pop/rock songs, plus further techniques including using a microphone correctly

Honing of material

Run through and showcase

You will receive friendly feedback throughout
Something to Think About
A Dictaphone or other portable recording device is recommended in order to record harmony lines etc. (Most mobile phones come with some kind of recording facility - so please check before purchasing anything new.)
You should bring a folder to class in which to put any given sheet music and a pencil to make notes on the score.
