J Marie wowed the judges in her blind audition for the BBC’s talent show, The Voice, receiving yes’ all round and flying through to the next stage. J Marie is now in the recording studio singing and writing her own original tracks, and is excited to share her experience with fans and City Academy students.

In this jam-packed day you will:

• Participate in a thorough vocal warm-up focussing on breathing and technique; including stretching, vowel sounds and vocal sequencing
• Cover popular music by the likes of Rihanna, Jessie J and Jason Mraz with a live pianist
• Work on harmonies
• Work on performance techniques
• Learn vocal improvisation techniques
• Informal performances (both from students and J Marie Cooper)

J Marie Cooper's Credits

J Marie Cooper is best known for her appearance on the BBC's The Voice UK, when she sailed through her blind audition after being described as "a star of an artist" by will.i.am and Jessie J commenting “Your voice is insane. Its ridonkulosooooo!"

As a Singer/Songwriter, J Marie combines heart-felt lyrics with an explosive on-stage presence that has captivated London's music scene. As well as her appearance on The Voice, J Marie has been part of the house band on Strictly Come Dancing, and performed at Wembley Arena, Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, Proud Galleries and The Dominion Theatre.

J Marie is currently writing an album, and has recently had play on Radio 1 Xtra as a completely independent artist.

The masterclass was excellent!  I learned a lot about vocal warmups etc., the class had a very relaxed atmosphere and I felt my confidence increase during the day. J Marie Cooper is an excellent teacher, she really knows her stuff and was extremely patient too, especially while we were trying to get our harmonies right.  Eleanor Peters-Savva should get a mention too for being an excellent assistant and keeping the day on track and within the timeframe, not to mention an incredible pianist!
