Intermediate Singing Lessons

It's time to delve deeper into the Estil vocal method learning how to make appropriate vocal choices and have a strong foundation of Tilt and Twang - some of you will also be approaching Belt.

You will move on from group singing and focus on solo repertoire performing a solo and a duet at the end of the course; you will also explore more complex harmony singing, often with 4 or more harmony lines to stretch your musicality further.

On this course your technical skills and musical ability come together to take your singing towards excellence.

Sounds good? Let's hope so.

Singing Skills Development

Our Intermediate Singing lessons are perfect if you have completed our Improvers Singing course or if you already a confident group singer. It's still great fun, but we get a little more serious, after all you're getting more confident now, so we'll have to set you some new challenges!

The musical repertoire will be chosen from the Musical Theatre canon as well as pop, jazz and classical works.

Exact content may differ depending on students' needs and course duration, but topics generally covered include:

  • A developed understanding of the workings of the vocal mechanism

  • Achieving a good quality vocal performance while using the voice in a safe and healthy manner

  • Application of 'acting through song' techniques

  • Recap of basic techniques via thorough learning of warm up exercises

  • Learning a song, with harmonies, which will go on to be in the showcase at the end of the course

  • You will work one to one on your choice of solo

  • Polishing and honing the material

  • Run through and showcase

Something to Think About

A Dictaphone or other portable recording device is recommended in order to record harmony lines etc. (Most mobile phones come with some kind of recording facility - so please check before purchasing anything new.)

You should bring a folder to class in which to put any given sheet music and a pencil to make notes on the score.

Suggested reading (optional): Singing and The Actor by Gillianne Keyes
