4 Day Dance Foundation

The 4 Day Dance Foundation course is perfect for anyone looking for intensive dance training which builds a solid technical foundation in dance in a short space of time.

During the week of classes you will raise your performance ability and further your knowledge across a variety of dance genres: all helping you to gain confidence to pursue future dance training.

Foundation Course Content

The 4 Day Foundation Course is run over four consecutive full weekdays, finishing with a friendly and informal showcase to demonstrate what you've learned to invited audience of friends and family.

The classes have been carefully formulated to build a variety of skills. As an example, one day might consist of classes in:

  • Ballet
  • Contemporary
  • Contact Improvisation
  • Floor Work
  • Strength & Flexibility
  • Jazz/Commercial

Foundation Course Curriculum Plan

The Dance Foundation course has been designed to give you a foundation in dance. The content covered will include:

Ballet classes

  • Increase coordination and balance
  • Improve body awareness through posture and alignment
  • Develop strength and flexibility
  • Learn ease and grace of movement

Contemporary classes

  • Learn dynamics and travelling through space
  • Learn the precise techniques of swings, drops, accents, length, contractions and more
  • Build an understanding of motion, dropping of weight and fullness of movements

Contact Improvisation classes

  • Experiment with relating to other dancers in the space
  • Learn the ability to improvise through dance
  • Develop confidence in the ability to let body lead movement

Strength & Flexibility

  • Increase flexibility through dance exercises and good stretching practices
  • Body conditioning: core strength, posture and alignment

Commercial classes

  • Learn precise techniques of kicks, turns, leaps and isolations
  • Cardiovascular work, mobilisation, stretching and strengthening
  • Explore different styles of commercial dance such as Street, Hip-Hop and Diva

Jazz classes

  • Learn the fundamentals of basic modern jazz dance including turns, steps and kicks
  • Explore footwork and co-ordination, corner to corner work and spacing and routine combination

Studios and Tutors

The rehearsal studios are at Sadler's Wells Theatre, one of the world's leading dance venues. Rehearsals take place in their beautifully equipped dance studios in central London. The studios are home to the rehearsals of Sadler's Wells' own dance productions, as well as many other leading dance companies in London.

The course is taught by selected professional choreographers and dancers, experts in a range of dance styles. Their dance credits range from live performances with Rihanna and Alicia Keys, to West End shows such as the Dominion Theatre's "Thriller Live" and Matthew Bourne's "New Adventures", as well as extensive dance training from some of the world's leading dance institutions.

Showcase Performance

On the afternoon of the forth session of the course, you will have the chance to perform routines from your training in a showcase performance. The showcase will be for guests, friends and family in a rehearsal studio within Sadler's Wells Theatre.

No Venue

All City Academy tutors are experienced professionals from theatre, film/TV and performance industries. So whilst they're training you they may also be rehearsing for a West End show or working on a movie. We like that and we do believe it makes a difference in class.
