The choir leader creates a friendly, fun environment and ensures that we are challenged (just enough) throughout the rehearsal. It provides a great teambuilding/ networking opportunity, outside of the formal office environment.
Helen Haynes, Learning & Development
A group of employees from financial firm Fidessa were looking for an ongoing team challenge. They wanted a creative activity that would appeal to individuals from various teams. After discussion, the Learning and Development team at City Academy identified that the formation of choir workplace choir at Fidessa would be the perfect way to meet the company's objectives.
Fidessa liked the idea that forming a choir was beneficial on a number of levels: singing releases endorphins in the participants, builds relationships, boosts team morale and teamworking and represents a cost effective and creative solution from the company point of view.
City Academy provided a professional choir leader and singing coach as well as an appropriate venue in walking distance from Fidessa’s offices in The City of London. ‘Fidessa Choir’ now meet for two hours every two weeks at St Mary-at-Hill near the Tower of London.
After just the first two sessions, the group expanded from 12 to 25 people. The choir comes together to work on songs of their choice under the guidance of choir leader Richard Hartley Wilson.
City Academy asked Fidessa for some feedback:
"I was a bit apprehensive about putting my name down as my only previous experience I had was singing in a school choir many, many years ago. I was glad I did, as our first meeting was brilliant. I can’t wait for the next session".
Wayne Coomey, HR Director
"I arrived not knowing what to expect and left 2 hours later on a musical high. Fidessa Choir is a great way to get to know colleagues you usually wouldn’t have any interaction with while learning a few songs and harmonies on the way. No auditioning required, just bring yourself along with a song in your heart".
Darina Barrons, Account Manager
"Very inspirational and emotionally uplifting! Melts the heart with happiness"!
Seshandri Dhanakoti, Development Manager
"If you sing along to the radio in the car, you’ll really enjoy this!"
David Pearson, Strategic Business Architect
‘‘I was not sure what to expect from the choir, after two enjoyable hours singing, I am really please I stepped out of my comfort zone and gave it a go!"
Eleanor Corbin, Recruitment Officer
"With the promise of being able to try pretty much anything we want from 13th century madrigals to reggae, we’re certainly not going to get bored!"
Rick Martin, Senior Developer
