Summer School Schedule

DAY ONE: GET SET

It’s your first day on a film set! You’ll learn what everyone does, from the Producer, Writer, Director and Cinematographer to the Sound Recordist, Production Designer, Script Supervisor and Editor. In the afternoon you’ll cover the Cinematographer and Director roles in-depth.

DAY TWO: ON SCRIPT

Learn the basics of writing for film and then develop a story with your classmates. You’ll explore different genres, conflict, character goals and resolution. Then it’s time to sketch out the plot for your film and start thinking about how you want to direct it.

 DAY THREE: ACTION!

A creative performance workshop will help you get into the mind of an actor, before you go on to learn tips and tricks for recording sound and dialogue. In the afternoon it’s showtime: you’ll start shooting your short film as a group.

DAY FOUR: MAKE THE CUT

You’ll finish off the shoot, with everyone in the group rotating roles and learning the key skills of a film crew. You’ll move on to the editing stage, using Adobe Premiere software to cut together your footage and audio.

DAY FIVE: ON SCREEN

It’s the last day of your course, and by now you’ve learned everything you need to know to make a movie from scratch. Today you’ll add the finishing touches to your edit, going deeper into how to use Adobe Premiere. Then you’ll come back together as a group for a screening of your work.

No Venue

All City Academy tutors are experienced professionals from theatre, film/TV and performance industries. So whilst they're training you they may also be rehearsing for a West End show or working on a movie. We like that and we do believe it makes a difference in class.
