BALLET SUMMER SCHOOL SCHEDULE

You will kick off each day with strength, flexibility and conditioning training. Once you’ve warmed up and stretched it’s time to move onto ballet barre and centre practice to build technique.

There will be special ballet classes covering subjects like pointe, specific ballet elements and contemporary dance to explore ballet’s influence on other syles.

In the afternoons you’ll have the chance to put your hard work into practice, learning excerpts from ballets such as Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and Giselle.

DAY ONE

Take your first step into ballet on this ballet summer intensive! You’ll enjoy a detailed introduction to the form and get to see each exercise on and off the barre for yourself. Then it's time to get into the strength, flexibility and muscle mobility you’ll need to start improving your technique. You’ll round off the day with an introduction to dancing en pointe, followed by a repertory class to start putting what you’ve learned into practice.

DAY TWO

It’s time to build on the basics covered in day one with more barre and center exercises, this time with a focus on balance, posture and coordination. You’ll be put through your paces by perfecting your pirouette, and continue your development of dancing en pointe. Your tutor will introduce you to important points of anatomy for ballet. An afternoon repertory class will cover choreography from an iconic ballet.

DAY THREE

You’ll enjoy another day on the spin, improving your pirouettes and pointe work with ever-increasing confidence in your coordination and balance. You’ll also have chance to look ahead to days four and five, covering the historical background to the ballets you’ll be dancing, before another afternoon repertory class.

DAY FOUR

Once you’ve built on your pointe work and continued strengthening your muscles, it’s time to add a contemporary twist to your Classical Ballet lessons. You’ll enjoy a Contemporary Dance workshop to understand how ballet has given rise to other exciting dance styles with roots in the genre. Your afternoon classes will include a session on injury prevention before more enjoyable repertory to get you moving freely.

DAY FIVE

In the morning you’ll round up your pointe work and approach this famous technique with greater strength and confidence. You’ll also have chance to review all the repertory from the course, perfect your choreography and reflect on how far you’ve come! There will be a chance to focus on performance technique, with an informal showcase for your invited guests, followed by a Q and A session.

BALLET INTENSIVE tutors

All City Academy tutors are experienced professionals from theatre, film/TV and performance industries. So whilst they're training you they may also be rehearsing for a West End show or working on a movie. We like that and we do believe it makes a difference in class.
