Medallia

FROM SALES PRO TO WEST END STAR

Medallia's Sales team were eager to take on a larger-than-life team building challenge. In just one afternoon, our West End tutors transformed the team into singing and dance sensations. Here's how we did it...

THE BRIEF

Medallia’s sales team were meeting in London for their annual team meeting. With staff from UK, EMEA and the US, management were eager to motivate and inspire their team with a full and eclectic programme of activities.

Sales Director Brian Lall approached City Academy with an idea to turn his team into West End performers for a day. After their morning conference, Brian wanted this upbeat workshop to bring the group together and prepare them for a company-wide Talent Show in the evening giving them the edge over the competition.

Brian was clear in his vision for this event and wanted to surprise his team with a Greatest Showman Musical Theatre experience. This interactive dance and singing workshop would, he felt, be ideal to get individuals out of their comfort zones and work together on a new creative challenge.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

City Academy’s business team and Head of Musical Theatre worked closely with Brian to meet his brief.

We proposed two songs and a dance routine from The Greatest Showman. With just 4 hours to turn Sales professionals into Talent Show Show-stoppers we had our work cut out for us!

The workshop took place at a large conference room in Central London. After playing two short film clips from The Greatest Showman the team set to work learning lyrics and melodies for the songs. Learning a new song together is a powerful means for bonding a group and this team were no different.

After the crash course in Singing, we hit the dance floor and learned an ambitious Musical Theatre dance routine to ‘This is Me’. The large group moved in sync to a specially choreographed dance routine adding their own moves to make it their own!

The workshop ended with a final singing and dance performance for camera leaving the group on a high and ready for the performance in front of their colleagues that evening.

OUR TEAM

Rebecca Wicking - City Academy’s Head of Musical Theatre is a professional performer and has trained top talent on the West End. Rebecca was particularly impressed with the energy and commitment the team displayed in finessing the dance routine.

Matt Pallant - Matt has a BA (Hons) in Music and has taught vocals to a number of rising West End stars. A highlight for Matt was the group postponing their tea break to work on their harmonies!

Dan Lowenstein - Dan filmed the process and final performance using state of the art 5D film kit. His edit of the experience was very well received and served as a proud memento of the day.

Peter Spring - City Academy’s Director of Learning & Development worked with Medallia to ensure that the experience exceeded their expectations.

WHAT THEY THOUGHT

Feedback from the group on the day was very positive. Musical Theatre is a challenge and stretch for most - especially when it’s a surprise interactive workshop - but the group were thrilled that they managed to work together and learn a new skill and get the blood flowing at the same time!

“THANK YOU FOR PUTTING ON SUCH AN AWESOME DAY! GETTING 50 SALESPEOPLE TO DELIVER A REASONABLY WELL-COORDINATED DANCE ROUTINE WAS AN AMAZING FEAT! I’LL CERTAINLY BE REACHING OUT TO CITY ACADEMY AGAIN FOR FUTURE EVENTS.”

Brian Lall, Medallia’s Director of Global Sales Enablement
