Saturday Theatre Company duo Annaliza Green and Matthew Egan, talk to us about their experiences acting in our Saturday Theatre Company - from the nervousness when first joining, to the excitement and fun of their performance.
Annaliza Green
Have you always been interested in acting?
Yes. I find it so necessary these days, when working behind a computer drains away your creative side.
What made you decide to join the Saturday Theatre Company? And how did you feel signing up?
I'd taken a couple of other City Academy acting classes but I've found they've always ended too early and just when you get to know your classmates. The Saturday Theatre Company was an opportunity to do just the opposite, and in this class I could work on the skills I learnt from my other courses. Signing up I was definitely nervous but Elizabeth made it a very welcoming and open environment.
What do you enjoy most about being in the Theatre Company?
I love working with a group of like-minded people who are enthusiastic, dedicated and supportive. The time we had performing and rehearsing together had always been the highlight of my week.
Congratulations on your recent show. How was it? How did it feel performing with the Company?
It felt great! From what I heard from the audience it was a very professional and organised event. It was amazing to perform for an audience what we had been rehearsing for weeks. I definitely felt the surge in adrenaline during the show, and to be honest it was bitter sweet when it all ended.
It started as an interest, has now become a hobby and I hope with more training, that perhaps one day it will be something more.
What would you say to someone who was thinking of trying the Theatre Company?
Join! You get to work on your acting skills, learn what a theatre company goes through, and lastly you have great fun doing it while meeting some awesome actors!
Do you see acting as a hobby, or is something you’d be interested in taking more seriously?

Have you always been interested in acting?
I have wanted to try Acting for a number of years yet had reservations that given my inexperience. I then tried some beginners courses, which gave me the taste and confidence to make the next step with the Company.
What do you enjoy most about being in the Theatre Company?
I most of all liked the spirit that was created amongst the other actors in the Company. Everyone was very positive and supportive of one another.
What are the other members of the company like?
I think everyone managed to make a strong sense of community in the group. Everyone was friendly and supportive. The more experienced members were always giving helpful advice, and everyone was sociable. Most of the discussion happened in the pub afterwards!
Congratulations on your recent show. How was it? How did it feel performing with the company?
The performance was a lot of fun, and I thought it went really well. It was a shame that I couldn't see the whole performance of the show from backstage! The feedback I got afterwards from people who attended was very rewarding.
It's a good way to meet new people and get out of your comfort zone if you've never done it before - all in a safe, supportive environment.
What would you say to someone who was thinking of trying the Theatre Company?
I'd definitely give it a try, even if it's only just one of the taster sessions. It's a good way to meet new people and get out of your comfort zone if you've never done it before - all in a safe, supportive environment.
Do you see acting as a hobby, or something you’d be interested in taking more seriously?
I still see it as a hobby, and definitely want to keep on improving. I'm taking further classes, and also keeping on with the Company. As a hobby it is rewarding and a great way to meet diverse people from all over the world. It definitely broadens your horizons and helps you to develop as a person.
Annaliza and Matthew are members of the Saturday Theatre Company. They rehearse weekly, working together with a Director and other Company members towards regular performances throughout the year.
