Course Content
Week 1
- Meet and greet
- Physical warm-up, to improve technique, musicality, flexibility and general fitness
- Dance technique exercises to help build on a foundation of strength and muscle memory which aids the learning and retaining of choreography
- Learn a dance routine from one of your favourite contemporary musicals, such as ‘Hamilton’, ‘Six’, ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘The Prom’. You will also be given the chance to explore classic book musicals like ‘Kiss Me Kate’, ‘West Side Story’ and many more.
Week 2
- Vocal warm-up to work on extending range, technique and you will also explore a variety of vocal styles which are extremely useful tools when learning a wide range from the musical Theatre catalogue
- Vocal Technique using a variety of exercises to find your voice and to use your voice safely and learn how to adapt your vocal quality according to the genre you are singing. You will be building on your confidence as well as building on your musical knowledge and learning new songs.
- Work on a musical theatre song with a more classic book feel. Composers like Rogers and Hammerstein who have written wonderful musicals such as ‘The Sound of Musical’ and ‘Carousel’ are a perfect way to explore more of a straight tone and classical feel.
Week 3
- Physical warm-up
- Further dance technique exercises
- Explore a different dance style, learning choreography from a contrasting musical to week 1.
Week 4
- Vocal warm-up
- Vocal technique
- Explore a song from the Contemporary catalogue of Musical Theatre. This will be a complete contrast in style to week 2. Contemporary musical theatre has a more modern feel and can include musicals such as ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Hamilton’ and ‘Wicked’. The vocal style is very different to your classic book genre, so you will be working on vocal technique to help create a more modern sound.
Week 5
- Vocal and physical warm-up

For this class, you will be working with both the singing and dance tutor at the same time to see everything come together.
