Anthony Burt has worked in primary, secondary and adult education, and run inspiring community youth work, art, music, film, and writing projects for children for 20 years.
He’s a teacher, bookseller, and Edinburgh Children’s Book Festival Imagination Lab host, and is currently writing a series of middle-grade pirate adventure books for Guppy Books that are out in 2022. His debut picture book, The Wish Fish, was published in February 2021.
Anthony has been writing since his mum bought him a Fisherprice typewriter when he was five years old. He’s written scripts for CiTV, articles for the BBC’s children’s magazine Doctor Who Adventures, the Guardian, Nickelodeon, Disney, Harpercollins, Macmillan, The Wrap, Haymarket, and has trained professional scriptwriters in Los Angeles on how to write for children.
As a member of SCBWI, Anthony enjoys writing all kinds of children’s stories, usually with a dark but heartwarming and comedic twist. He has been a professional writing competition judge for the prestigious Bath Novel Award, and once sat on a bench in Bangor, Maine where Stephen King plonked his bottom to write his books.
Anthony’s teaching style is fun, interactive, inspiring, and encourages all students to find active ways into their stories and writing voice.
