Subjects taught by Doris A. Day:
Doris is a professional artist who has exhibited nationally and internationally, including a recent solo show in Hamburg, Germany. His work has also been presented as part of London Fashion week at the Royal Academy of Arts (2008), and Paris Fashion week (2010).
Doris studied painting at the Winchester School of Art before completing his Masters in Drawing at the prestigious Wimbledon School of Art. Since then he has collaborated with the fashion label John Smedley, painting one-off garments live during a London Fashion Week presentation. He has also had work published in Elephant magazine – a quarterly publication examining contemporary art and visual culture.
As a life drawing tutor, Doris really enjoys teaching as he likes to encourage his students to develop their own style and visual personality. He is also keen to make sure that his students feel comfortable, so his classes start with a range of warm-up exercises designed to relieve any anxieties and to introduce a selection of drawing materials. As the class progresses, students then look at more technical aspects of life drawing – including proportions of the figure, and perspective.
“Great teacher; innovative and encouraging”
