Playing Shakespeare

Sadie is a writer, director and dramaturg, who has worked with a variety of renowned theatres including Bristol Old Vic, Royal Exchange Manchester and the Arcola.

Sadie studied at Bristol University before undertaking an MFA in Theatre Directing at Birkbeck University. She then worked as the resident trainee director at West Yorkshire Playhouse where she assisted on Sweeney Todd (James Brining), Jungle Book (Liam Steel) and Of Mice and Men (Mark Rosenblatt).

She is currently the artistic director of Greenlight Theatre which makes work that engages with how technology affects the way we think and communicate. With Greenlight she has written and directed Seeing Double (Winner of U-Review award from The Stage) and Albee Vector the Sound Collector

Sadie’s classes are fun and active. Each session she likes to focus on one particular skill or technique. She then uses different scripts or devising materials to help her students understand the technique and learn how to apply it to their own performance.

“Sadie Spencer lead a fantastic course. Varied, informative, inclusive and so much fun!”
