GREENLAND

What on earth is happening to our planet? And who knows what to do? Certainties are few: every living thing is related to every other living thing; our actions have consequences; change is continual and inevitable.

The National Theatre asked four of the country's most exciting writers to investigate. The team spent six months interviewing key individuals from the worlds of science, politics, business and philosophy to create a fast-paced and provocative new play.

Greenland premiered at the National Theatre, London, in February 2011.

Useful information

Who is the Threshold Theatre Company for?
This performance-focused company is designed for experienced performers. Actors must have significant acting training (such as completion of Acting - Improvers or equivalent courses), and ideally some performance experience (if it's a few years ago!). It’s perfect for those ready to work at a high level within a committed ensemble. The focus of rehearsals is on the production itself rather than skill development.
Is there an audition process?
Yes, entry is by audition. This ensures the ensemble is working at a consistent level and can take on the demands of production. Auditions are informal but focused.
How do I apply for an audition?
You can book directly via the course page. If there is any preparation required at the audition (this depends on the Director), you'll be told in good time.
What kind of plays will we perform?
You’ll work on challenging, published plays, from contemporary drama to modern classics. Past productions have included ensemble-led pieces, pieces that speak truth to power and character-driven dramas.
What productions are coming up?
We aim to announce production titles 4-6 weeks before auditions. Watch this space for announcements or give us a call on 0207 042 8833 to find out more.
Will I receive a speaking role?
Yes. All cast members are assigned a speaking role based on the outcome of the audition process and the demands of the play. Roles are selected to challenge you as an artist and showcase your abilities.
Where will we perform?
The final performance is staged in a professional London theatre. These venues are fully equipped and open to the public, offering a genuine industry-standard performance experience.
Who leads the company?
The company is directed by a professional theatre practitioner with extensive industry experience. You may also collaborate with guest creatives and technical professionals during the production phase.
How big is the Threshold Theatre Company?
Typically 8-14 performers. This size ensures strong ensemble cohesion while giving each actor a meaningful role and rehearsal focus.
Can I invite guests to the final show?
Yes. The performance is ticketed and open to the public. Friends, family, and industry guests are welcome to attend.
