Performance skills are an extremely important part of your Street and Commercial dance training.
This intensive ten week Street and Commercial Performance Course* will equip you with the tools and practices needed to become a more confident and engaged street dancer, flourishing in your own unique performance style. Take your dance development to the next level and perform at the standard of an industry professional.
You will learn from professional dancers and tutors who have performed internationally on stage and screen supporting artists such as Rihanna, Craig David, Alicia Keys and FKA Twigs.
*To book this course you will need to attend an audition. Details of available auditions and booking options can be found in the 'Booking and Timetable' section of this page. After your audition, you will receive details on how to book the ten week course or recommended next steps.
Street and Commercial Performance Course Schedule
Week 1: Introduction to the course with exercises in how to become more comfortable performing
Week 2: Work on technique and execution. Start learning routine choreography
Week 3: Explore textures and dynamics within the choreography as you continue to learn the routine
Week 4: Learn how to connect and engage with an audience by exploring different storytelling through dance techniques
Week 5: Draw on and express emotions with an emphasis on musicality
Week 6: Perfect group shapes, formations and transitions whilst maintaining individual style and expression
Week 7: Introduction of props to your routine. Learn to seamlessly integrate other elements into choreography and build the confidence to manage potential mishaps
Week 8: Learn the staging processes required for live performances and become familiar with technical directions for shows
Week 9: Polish the finer points of your choreography so far and finish the final routine
Week 10: Review individual and group style and delivery using performance tools learned so far. Polish your finished routine in prep for show day
Music
Afrobeats, Commercial hits, Hip Hop and Urban Classics.
Level
For those with previous experience in Street and Commercial dance styles. Ideal if you would like to join the City Academy Commercial Company.
Styles
Street styles which may include Hip Hop, Locking, Popping, House, Waacking and other dynamic commercial choreography.
Equipment
Trainers with Heels optional.

No Venue
All City Academy tutors are experienced professionals from theatre, film/TV and performance industries. So whilst they're training you they may also be rehearsing for a West End show or working on a movie. We like that and we do believe it makes a difference in class.
