City Academy Foreword Theatre Company

Want to work with a professional theatre director and build confidence and performance skills within acting? Then our Foreword Theatre Company is for you!

Our Foreword Theatre Company fuses new writing and devising to combine the unique qualities and skills of the cast, creating energetic and contemporary performances.

You will have the opportunity to be an integral part of the creative process, building a dynamic, organic, and character-driven show as a fully inclusive member of the theatre company. You will work closely with a professional director who will help guide and mould the play towards the final performance.

The working environment is fun, supportive and social; encouraging confidence in both the rehearsal room and on stage.

Our Theatre Companies aim to be some of the most exciting part-time theatre groups in London. They give you the chance to participate in exciting contemporary theatre productions that fit around your working life. Rehearse weekly and take part in an inspiring theatre production, performing to an audience.

How Does it Work?

The Foreword Theatre Company perform in three Theatre Productions a year. Joining the company involves:

  • Weekly Saturday rehearsals
  • Chance to perform to a paying audience

Foreword Theatre Company - Who Can Join?

Everyone is welcome to join the company. All we require is that you have some previous acting experience - either a City Academy Beginners course or the equivalent classes elsewhere.

Company Director

The City Academy Foreword Theatre Company is led by Ashley Scott Layton.

Ashley is a professional director and writer who has a wealth of experience directing in London’s West End. After winning the Director’s Guild Award, he became assistant director at the Lyric Hammersmith, co-directing five critically acclaimed productions.

He worked as associate director on the Lyric’s production of Morning by Simon Stephens. After some time working with theatre makers across Europe, he returned to the UK as the resident director on the Royal National Theatre production of The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Night Time.

All City Academy tutors are experienced professionals from theatre, film/TV and performance industries. So whilst they're training you they may also be rehearsing for a West End show or working on a movie. We like that and we do believe it makes a difference in class.
