Our Singing Lessons for Beginners provide an excellent foundation for absolute beginners, as well as for those who have had some basic vocal training but want to develop their singing technique and vocal skills.
Don’t worry if you’re a little nervous - this singing course focuses on singing as a group and building your confidence. And it doesn't matter if you don't get it right first time round; it's all about practising and enjoying singing!
What will be taught on Singing Lessons for Beginners?
During the Level 1 course you will learn to control your voice. We will give you practical exercises to help you gain confidence using a varied repertoire - from pop to musical theatre to jazz, blues and soul.
Course content will include:
- Practising a series of varied vocal warm ups and technique exercises to improve your vocal range
- Learning about body awareness through focus on posture and alignment.
- How to develop a secure breathing technique
- Group singing and developing good listening and blending skills
- Learning how to achieve a good quality vocal performance while using your voice in a safe and healthy manner
Students will typically learn 3-6 songs during the course and will receive friendly feedback from your tutor throughout the course.

What are the entry requirements and level of this course?
This course is suitable for complete beginners and those who possess a passion and curiosity to learn more about their voice.
Students will learn about vocal technique, breathing, posture and application of this technique across a broad repertoire.
The ability to hear notes and sing them back as well as good spoken and written english is required.
How will I be taught?
All courses are taught within groups. Each week will begin with a thorough vocal warm up before going on to discover key vocal techniques and approaches to develop your confidence and singing skills.
Students will have the opportunity to sing a broad range of repertoire each week. Your voice will grow in strength and flexibility and you’ll gain a sense of control and confidence when singing. Best of all, you’ll have a lot of fun, and meet like-minded new people.
By the end of the course, what will I have achieved?
Students will have:
- Developed greater confidence in their vocal ability and singing as part of a group
- Grasped an understanding of how the vocal cords work and how sound is made
- Demonstrated good posture when singing and an understanding of the breathing mechanism
- Progressed through a number of vocal warm-ups and technique exercises
- Applied this technique across a broad range of repertoire
After I complete this course, what are the next steps in my training?
You may wish to repeat beginners and consolidate your technique before moving onto Level 2 singing courses.
Level 2 courses focus on solidifying technique, widening repertoire knowledge and developing tone, range and vocal style.
Solo elements are also incorporated within level 2 where students are encouraged to sing solo within the ensemble songs.
