Our Cinematography Course is a hands-on, creative introduction for students looking to master the art of visual storytelling. If you are working on short films, documentaries, or your own creative projects, this course will give you both the technical skills and the artistic insight to bring your stories to life.
As with all of our courses in our Film School you will be guided by an experienced industry professional, you’ll move between classroom learning and practical studio work in central London, exploring everything from camera setup and shot composition to professional lighting and storytelling through the lens.
What You Will Learn
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the key principles of cinematography and visual storytelling.
- Begin with DSLR cameras to build a strong technical foundation in camera operation, mastering ISO, aperture, shutter speed, white balance, and depth of field.
- Progress to using Blackmagic 4K and 6K cinecams with a variety of professional lenses to achieve high-quality cinematic results.
- Use different lenses and framing techniques to influence mood and narrative.
- Work with lighting creatively, from high key and low key to modulated setups.
- Capture a range of shots and angles to build visual interest and clarity.
- Convey emotion and story through shot selection and camera movement.
- Understand the role of a Director of Photography and how to collaborate on set.
- Apply your skills to real-world scenarios and start shooting your own projects.
