If you have a passion for wildlife photography and want to develop essential skills without having to travel, our Wildlife Photography Courses are perfect for you. Armed with your camera we’ll go deep into Richmond Park – the largest enclosed space in London – to photograph herds of Red and Fallow deer. Following the workshop, you will also have the opportunity to receive feedback on your images in a one hour online session with your tutor.
In a natural environment, you’ll get a hands-on experience of observing and photographing wild animals. As with all of our photography workshops at City Academy, you will learn from professional photographers with years of experience, and your amazing photos will reflect the level of teaching.
PLEASE NOTE
This course requires a digital DSLR or mirrorless camera with full manual controls. Please also provide any necessary props and accessories such as memory cards and spare batteries. If you don't have a camera you can borrow one from us.
WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY COURSES - CONTENT
During this photography class, you will learn:
- Light – how to make the most of natural lighting and create strong contrast and dramatic images
- Camera settings – get to grips with the camera settings for this type of photography, including depth of field, perspective and focusing techniques
- Action images – discover how to work with moving subjects and create stunning action photographs
- Stalking – learn how to stalk animals for an effective photograph
- Safety and welfare – discuss the safety aspects of wildlife photography including suitable precautions for the photographer and the welfare of the animals
Level
A good understanding of basic exposure and your camera’s manual settings is advised.

Equipment
It is recommended you bring your own DSLR or Camera with full manual controls. If you don't have a camera you can borrow one from us.
YOU WILL NEED
We recommend you bring the following equipment with you to the course:
- DSLR or mirrorless camera with full manual controls
- Your camera’s manual
- Fully charged battery
- An empty memory card
- Comfortable shoes
- External flash (for some classes, if owned)
- Variety of focal lenses from 70-200mm
You’ll also need a basic knowledge of aperture, camera lenses, shutter speed and ISO including exposure modes. If you’re a photography novice, then you may find it helpful to sign up to one of our Beginner Courses first.
