Contemporary Dance Classes - Intermediate

Building on our Contemporary Improvers course, our Contemporary Dance Classes - Intermediate will challenge you with fast-paced classes consisting of technical and complex movement sequences. This contemporary dancing course is for more advanced students who want to work on their performance, agility and stamina. You will have completed our Contemporary Improvers 2 course or equivalent elsewhere.

Throughout the course you will develop dynamic travelling sequences, explore your own body movement through improvisation and learn challenging choreography. You will increase your range of movement, improve your musicality, coordination and spatial awareness.

Contemporary Dance CLASSES - INTERMEDIATE Content

Exact content may differ depending on your needs and course duration, but topics generally covered include:

• Technically advanced movement combinations
• High energy class with a focus on increasing stamina
• Development of movement memory
• Deeper exploration of improvisation tasks and techniques

We recommend you wear layered clothing for this course. You will receive friendly feedback throughout the course.

Contemporary Dance Techniques

There are several Contemporary Dance Techniques and our tutors are experts in different combinations of those styles. Below are the main Contemporary Dance genres:

• Release: emphasis on fluidity and the efficient use of energy and breath
• Graham: focus on the use of contraction, release, fall and recovery
• Cunningham: promotes natural movement through rhythm and articulation
• Contact Improvisation: partners improvise using weight exchange and fluid movement
