What will be taught on this guitar course?

Course content will include:

  • Correct technique and theory of Barre Chords
  • A wide range of songs and genres that highlight fundamental techniques
  • Chord and melody embellishments
  • Intermediate Strumming and Fingerpicking Techniques
  • How to approach perfecting a song and performance

Like all of our music lessons, you will work as a group while still receiving individual feedback. You will work learn two popular songs that can be performed in front of friends and family.

Entry requirements and level of this course?

Students will need to know the basic chords: C, G, D, E, A, Am, Em, Dm - and confidently change between them. Students should also have some basic experience with reading tabs or music. Please note, you will need to bring your own guitar.


How will I be taught?

The courses are taught within groups where you will work on various exercises and songs as well as receiving individual feedback.

By the end of the course, what will I have achieved?

Students will have:

  • Grasped how to master and apply barre chords
  • Learnt at least 4 contemporary songs applying intermediate techniques and new approaches
  • An introduction to improvisation
  • Built a solid repertoire and developed songs previously learned

After I complete this course, what are the next steps in my training?

Students may wish to repeat a Level 2 guitar course or attend a City Academy Open Mic event to put their skills into practice.
