Soul music's roots lie in gospel and rhythm & blues - but it was artists like Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin who really made the world sit up and listen. By the 1960s the Tamla/Motown labels were releasing hit after hit from the likes of The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, The Jackson Five and many more. You will learn the fundamentals of gospel and soul singing and musicianship as well as understanding the history and origins of these vibrant singing genres. Each repertoire-focused lesson will pull the group together to create an authentic unified rhythm and blues sound. Our singing classes are taught in a fun and supportive environment and most of the time you will be singing in a group, although occasionally you will have the opportunity to sing on your own to check your progress. Breathing and Posture Consolidate vocal technique, breathing exercises and posture to support healthier, more controlled singing. Informal Sharing Demonstrate what you have learned in a final informal sharing with fellow students. Entry requirements for this course This course is suitable for those who have a basic knowledge of singing techniques and the ability to correctly pitch and understand their voice. Students must have completed a Beginners Singing Course and/or have previous singing experience and wish to further develop their vocal skills. Within this course, students will further consolidate vocal technique, breathing exercises, posture and application of this technique across a broad repertoire.
