Our Writing for Television courses explore the fundamentals of writing for a medium enjoying its golden age. From Mad Men to True Detective, Sherlock to Line of Duty, you will chart how television is made from pitch to pilot, and start to develop your first script for the small screen.
As well as in-depth analysis of your individual ideas, our TV Writing course explores ways to interrogate your own work, with exercises to test characters and develop series arcs. Learn from the very best of contemporary television through clips, discussion and analysis.
This course is essential for anyone who loves TV, wants to develop show ideas and learn how to put together a convincing sales pitch to both agents and producers. It is suitable both for complete beginners and for more experienced writers who already have an idea they would like to develop.
WRITING FOR TELEVISION COURSE CONTENT
- Exploring narrative structure for televisual writing.
- Interrogating characters using clips and analysis from existing shows.
- Ways to develop your dialogue and to demonstrate themes visually.
- Script Doctoring based on a pitch developed during the course.
- Formatting your script and approaches to pitching.
- How to get the most out of notes and feedback.

The opportunity to discuss and share your ideas with a group of fellow writers can be an incredibly useful part of the creative process, helping you develop the style and scope of your writing.
