Musical Theatre Company

Musical Theatre Company

Our Musical Theatre Company is a unique opportunity to take to the stage in a central London theatre. Learn your craft in musical theatre as part of a performing ensemble.

The Musical Theatre Company is one of our longest running companies. They have been performing together for just over a decade, since the first production of Rent in 2012. Since then, this ongoing group performs twice a year, a Christmas musical theatre-themed pantomime and a full musical production in the summer. These are both staged in a large theatre with full technical production, a professional environment with an expert creative team consisting of a director, musical director and choreographer.

The company is a welcoming, fun and passionate group who love musical theatre, and new members are welcomed with open arms!

What will I achieve?

  • Perform twice a year in a lavish summer production and Christmas pantomime
  • Learn the art of performing musical theatre through extensive rehearsals and training
  • Integrate singing, dance and acting, exploring the dynamic between all three elements
  • Light up the stage in a central London theatre

Choose from Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday nights.

Perform at a central London theatre, twice a year to a public audience.

Our Next Production: FOOTLOOSE

Footloose tells the story of Ren McCormack, a teenager from Chicago who moves to a small town where dancing and rock music have been banned. Ren faces resistance from the conservative town leaders, including Reverend Shaw Moore. Determined to bring joy back to the community, Ren rallies his peers to fight for their right to dance. And along the way, he falls in love with Ariel, the rebellious daughter of the reverend.

Footloose is a celebration of self-expression and the power of youth.

How do I join?

We have two intakes a year, one in January and one in August. In order to join the Musical Theatre Company you need to have completed our Musical Theatre Beginners and Musical Theatre Improvers courses. There is no further audition in order to join the company.

On occasion we do consider students who have performance experience outside of City Academy, if their level is high enough. To join the company without attending our courses, please email a video of you performing a musical theatre song to piano or a backing track to our team at abi-mt@city-academy.com. You will be contacted and advised of the next steps.

Rehearsal Schedule

Our next rehearsals start on the 8th, 9th, 10th January 2024

Depending on what night of the week you would prefer to rehearse, we have three separate groups you can join. You can choose to join the Monday group, Tuesday group or Wednesday group. All rehearsals start in the same week and culminate in a show at the same time, the only difference is the date you rehearse.

In order to put on a production of the highest calibre possible, we expect a high level of dedication, hard work and commitment. We appreciate our company members have busy lives, however practice at home and commitment in order for it to be a success, so we do ask that you attend as many classes as you can.

No Venue

All City Academy tutors are experienced professionals from theatre, film/TV and performance industries. So whilst they're training you they may also be rehearsing for a West End show or working on a movie. We like that and we do believe it makes a difference in class.
