Our Musical Theatre Company is a unique opportunity to take to the stage in a central London theatre. Learn your craft in musical theatre as part of a performing ensemble.
The Musical Theatre Company is one of our longest running companies. They have been performing together for just over a decade, since the first production of Rent in 2012. Since then, this ongoing group performs twice a year, a Christmas musical theatre-themed pantomime and a full musical production in the summer. These are both staged in a large theatre with full technical production, a professional environment with an expert creative team consisting of a director, musical director and choreographer.
The company is a welcoming, fun and passionate group who love musical theatre, and new members are welcomed with open arms!
What will I achieve?
- Perform twice a year in a lavish summer production and Christmas pantomime
- Learn the art of performing musical theatre through extensive rehearsals and training
- Integrate singing, dance and acting, exploring the dynamic between all three elements
- Light up the stage in a central London theatre
Loading shows
Useful information
Rehearsals take place once a week, giving participants the flexibility to balance training with other commitments. You can choose from Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday evenings, depending on what suits your schedule best.
Performances take place twice a year during dedicated show weeks at a central London theatre, in front of a public audience. The show will usually run multiple times throughout the 'show week' giving you lots of opportunities to perform on stage.
We welcome passionate performers who are ready to take the next step in musical theatre. There are two ways to join the Musical Theatre Company:
- If you’ve completed our Musical Theatre Beginners and Improvers courses, you’re automatically eligible to join, no additional audition required.
- If you have previous musical theatre experience outside of City Academy, we’d love to hear from you! Simply follow the steps above to submit a short performance video for consideration.
Whether you’ve trained with us or gained experience elsewhere, we’re always excited to welcome new talent into the company.

Join us as we bring a brand-new pantomime version of the much-loved Christmas classic A Christmas Carol to the Bridewell Theatre!
Expect everything that makes our annual pantomimes so memorable: spectacular production numbers, high-energy musical theatre songs, laugh-out-loud comedy, larger-than-life characters, outrageous costumes, plenty of panto traditions, and fantastic opportunities for performers of all experience levels to shine.
With a vibrant and theatrical twist on the classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come, this festive adventure will be packed with Christmas magic, colourful ensemble numbers, memorable character roles, a fabulous Dame, and all the fun and excitement you've come to expect from The Company.

Credits include: Cinderella in Cinderella (Plymouth Theatre Royal, Wycombe Swan & Venue Cymru); Ripper Street (BBC), Buckingham Palace, Princess Apricot/Jill in Jack & the Beanstalk
Choreographer: Ughetta Pratesi
Ughetta has collaborated with various artists from Central Saint Martins, both as a dancer and movement director, and has been involved in projects with Danish choreographer Sarah Louise Kristiansen
Head of Department: Abi Welford
Abi has been part of the City Academy Team and Musical theatre department at City Academy over the past 10 years

All of our tutors have experience performing on the West End and their friendly and supportive teaching will breakdown the steps into bitesize chunks.
