Running from our central London studios, where many of the biggest West End shows cast and rehearse, this foundation course combines both our Beginners and Improvers course into one exciting programmes into one exciting experience. Over five days, you’ll be introduced to the core techniques of singing, dancing, and acting, while exploring the magic of musical theatre in a fun and supportive setting. Work on blending as an ensemble with material from Les Misérables and Wicked. Dance Numbers Build stamina and style with full choreography. Explore movement technique with Hairspray’s “You Can’t Stop the Beat” and dive into jazz performance with Chicago’s “All That Jazz.” Acting Through Song Take part in a dedicated workshop to explore how to communicate story and emotion through lyrics and staging. Learn to take direction, highlight meaning in text, and bring characters to life. Character Development Be brave in your choices and explore bold characterisation. From Wicked’s “What is This Feeling?” to dramatic solos from Les Misérables, you’ll learn how to inhabit contrasting musical styles. Solo Performance Opportunity Choose a set piece from Les Misérables (“I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables,” or “Stars”) or bring your own song. Backing tracks and guides are provided to help you prepare. No. This course is open to complete beginners as well as those with some prior training. All you need is enthusiasm and a love of musicals. What should I wear? Comfortable rehearsal clothes—such as trainers, leggings, or joggers. Avoid anything too restrictive as you’ll be moving, singing, and dancing. Do I need to prepare anything before the course? Yes, you will need to prepare a solo piece. You can choose from our Les Misérables set list or bring a musical theatre song of your own choice. We provide backing tracks and guides via Dropbox once you’ve enrolled. Will I get to perform at the end? Yes. On the final day, you’ll take part in a relaxed showcase for friends and family, celebrating everything you’ve learned during the week. Is this suitable if I just want to try something new? Absolutely. Many participants join simply for the joy of performing, confidence building, and trying something new in a fun and friendly setting. Our Approach Our Musical Theatre Foundation courses are taught by two teachers in order to maximise your learning experience. We will also have a masterclass session which will be our only opportunity to look at solos. The course is group lead so this is a great way for you to get specific feedback relating to vocal technique and storytelling. Musical theatre classes are taught in a fun and supportive environment so don’t worry if you feel a bit nervous. We pride ourselves on our community values. We do not require you to be a seasoned performer, all we ask for is a positive attitude and energy to help make the classes as fun as possible! Want to learn more?
