Portrait Drawing Lessons

Our one-day Portrait Drawing course introduces the fundamental techniques of drawing the human face. Suitable for beginners and more experienced artists alike, it is open to anyone who wants to develop their portrait drawing skills.

The course explores essential methods to help improve your work while building a strong foundation for continued practice beyond the classroom.

Working with pencil, charcoal and paper, you'll study proportion, shading, expression and how to capture individual facial characteristics. You'll also gain an understanding of the underlying skull, facial muscles and anatomy, while developing your observational drawing and mark-making techniques.

By the end of the day, you'll have greater confidence in your drawing and a toolkit of essential skills to continue developing expressive and characterful portraits.

No need to bring any materials, just yourself and your creativity! We'll provide all paper and drawing materials. As charcoal can be messy, please wear clothes you don't mind marking or bring an apron. If you're coming straight from work, we'll also have a limited number of aprons available to borrow.
