Francine is an illustrator, designer, journalist, photographer and a visiting lecturer in Visual Journalism at City University, London.
She has art-directed and edited several magazines, including the award-winning Country Living, and was also Editorial Director of Illustrated Books at Simon & Schuster UK. She has recently illustrated two books and is working on a series of paintings for an exhibition in 2015.
“I never travel without my sketchbook, and love the feeling of losing myself in a drawing. Taking a photograph is easy, but is not nearly as satisfying as observing and then translating what you see through your hand to the paper. For me it has become a form of relaxation – meditation, even – and it need take only a few minutes.”
Susi trained as a graphic designer and has worked as a photographic stylist, magazine design editor and art director on feature films.
Her experience working on films in Australia, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand has fed her interest in art and design from far and wide. She is fascinated by colour and her bold paintings and illustrated work reflect this. She loves working in colourful pastel & gauche.
Susi collaborates on joint projects and teaches regularly with Francine Lawrence on the City Academy Drawing Workshops.
