Carla Huhtanen

Carla debuted in Italy at Gran Teatro la Fenice in Gershwin’s Lady, Be Good! and returned to La Fenice as Athenaïs in Cherubini’s Anacréon. In the UK, she was Lisetta in Garsington Opera’s La Gazzetta (Rossini) and returned as Serpetta in their production of Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera, a performance repeated at the Barbican Centre’s Mostly Mozart series.

Other highlights include Cunegonde (Candide) with the BBC Concert Orchestra. She returns to OA in 2025 in The Magic Flute. Chandos records recently released a Vaughan-Williams CD featuring Carla. It was nominated for two Grammy Awards (winning for Producer of the Year) and also won a Juno Award for Best Classical Album – Large Ensemble. Her students have gone on to win vocal competitions and work at major opera and theatre companies worldwide. Carla collaborates with composers and writers to create new vocal works with companies such as the Canadian Opera Company.

She aims to guide adult singers with contemporary, science-based vocal pedagogy that builds efficient technique, self-confidence and authentic expression. – whether they are auditioning, preparing for exams or singing in their local choir.
