We are a community of creatives.

We believe in the power of the arts to spark ideas, bring joy and connect. We are committed to inclusivity, celebrating the unique voices of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, beliefs, identities and experiences.

Our mission is to foster creative communities where the imagination can thrive, skills are honed and bold ideas take shape.

Our Expectations

We are dedicated to creating a supportive and safe environment where both students and staff can thrive. Our goal is to foster a space where everyone can reach their full potential, both creatively and professionally.

Our expectation is that everyone in our community treat oneanother with respect. All students are expected to adhere to our Student Code of Conduct and General Policies.

Please note that we regularly review and update the policies listed below to reflect best practice.

STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT - WHAT WE EXPECT

We are proud to offer a welcoming, professional and creative environment for adults from all backgrounds to learn, grow and express themselves.

Our Student Code of Conduct outlines what we expect from everyone taking part in our courses—whether you’re with us for a short course or a long-term programme.

This guide exists to ensure all of our spaces remain inclusive, respectful and safe for every member of our community, including students, tutors, staff, clients and visitors.

We ask everyone to treat each other with courtesy, respect and care. This includes:

  • Listening to others and allowing space for everyone’s voice to be heard.

  • Being mindful of how your words and actions might affect others—even if unintentional.

  • Supporting a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, harassment, and discrimination of any kind.

  • Celebrating the diversity of backgrounds, experiences and identities that make our community so vibrant.

Arriving on time for your classes helps everyone make the most of their experience.

  • If you are running late or can’t attend a session, please let us know as soon as possible.

  • Regular attendance is important, especially in collaborative classes such as acting, dance or singing where your presence contributes to the work of the whole group.

  • We understand that life is busy and unpredictable—if you’re struggling to attend, talk to us. We’re here to support you.

City Academy operates with a professional ethos to help prepare you for industry standards in the arts.

  • Please treat tutors, staff and fellow students with professionalism and respect at all times.

  • Follow instructions during class, particularly in relation to movement, technical work or safety.

  • Be prepared—bring what you need for your course, dress appropriately for the activity, and give your full attention when in session.

  • Avoid disrupting classes or using mobile devices during teaching unless specifically permitted by your tutor.

Your safety, and that of those around you, is a shared responsibility.

  • Always follow any safety guidelines provided by your tutor or the venue.

  • Do not use equipment, props, or instruments without proper instruction or permission.

  • Let your tutor or a member of staff know if you feel unsafe or unwell at any time during a class.

  • Please wear the appropriate clothing or footwear for your activity, particularly in physical classes like dance or stage combat.

We want to keep our spaces clean, welcoming and well-maintained for everyone.

  • Please treat studios, rehearsal rooms, costumes, props and all equipment with care.

  • Food and drink should only be consumed in designated areas. Water bottles may be brought into class unless instructed otherwise.

  • Smoking or vaping is not permitted inside any of our venues.

  • Students are not permitted to attend classes under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

  • Alcohol may be available at some City Academy social events, but consumption must be responsible and in line with the venue’s licensing laws.

We are committed to maintaining safe and inclusive creative spaces.

  • Some performing arts activities may involve physical or emotional expression. Your tutor will always give you the option to opt out or adapt an exercise if you are uncomfortable.

  • Consent is essential. No one should feel pressured to participate in anything they do not feel safe or comfortable with.

General Policies
