Course Structure

  • You will be paired up and given a 10 minute scene from a play or film to work on and present in class. 
  • After a preliminary Zoom meet, all students are expected to prepare their scene as they would, if they were working on it professionally. This includes connecting with your scene partner ourside of class, reading and having a good understanding of the full script, arriving for the first day of class off-book, well-rehearsed, with props and costumes for your initial scene showing. 
  • Then the fun begins! The first round of scenes will be presented during the first sessions. You will present your allocated scene on your allocated day.
  • The scene will then be workshopped with you, during which time you will receive in-depth, personalised feedback, and your areas for future focus will be addressed. 
  • It should be noted that you are required to be present and active in listening and note-taking even on the days you are not presenting your work. This is important as you will learn much through observation given the deep nature in which participants will be working with the course instructor. 
  • As the course comes to an end, you will similarly present your scene again, incorporating notes or exercises given in the previous days. 
  • It is expected that all students will rehearse their scene outside of class, and that progress is made between your first and second showing. 
  • The second showing is where the magic happens! After presenting your scene a second time, the scene may be further workshopped, and your next steps for the progression of your craft will be discussed.  
  • On your final day of class, the scenes will be shown in a formal presentation to a small, invited audience. 
  • Enjoy a Q&A between the course leader, and an Agent or Casting Director.

Training

This is a practical, group course which breaks down the key elements of a powerful scene.

Level

Suitable for actors with prior experience. You must have completed the acting improvers class or equivalent.

Commitment

Advanced students are expected to rehearse outside of class and fully engage with the process. In return, you’ll experience growth, gain invaluable industry insights, and feel more confident than ever in your abilities as an actor.
