Sophia Priolo


Sophia Priolo

Sophia is an American actor, dancer, and movement director with a passion for teaching. She trained in classical ballet with the Alabama Dance Theatre school and company, where she performed Swan Lake, Les Sylphides, Paquita, The Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella, as well as contemporary ballets such as The Messiah, A Christmas Carol, Peter Pan, and other works set by resident and guest choreographers. In 2008 she attended the Joffrey Ballet School in NYC and in 2009 she performed in dance festivals around the southeastern United States and was a finalist in the Alabama ACES competition.

Sophia studied Shakespeare and stage combat at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival before pursuing a BA in Music from the University of Montevallo (USA) and an MA in Music Theatre from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Sophia also studied Shakespeare and stage combat at Michael Howard Studios Acting Conservatoire (NYC) before moving to London where she has furthered her stage combat training with Academy of Performance Combat at Shakespeare’s Globe.

Favourite roles include: Mary Tudor (Henry VIII), Katherina Minola (Taming of the Shrew), Olivia (Twelfth Night), Duchess of Aumerle (Richard II), Hedda Gabler (Hedda Gabler), Kyra Hollis (Skylight), Laura Wingfield (The Glass Menagerie), Miss Julie (Miss Julie), Guenevere (Camelot), Blanche Ingram (Jane Eyre), and Franca Naccarelli (The Light in the Piazza), as well as numerous performances of new plays, contemporary works, and films by upcoming playwrights and filmmakers.

As a choreographer, Sophia has staged such shows as Fiddler on the Roof, The Music Man, Meet Me in St. Louis, Annie, The Sound of Music, Bye Bye Birdie, Hamlet (opera), Die Fledermaus, and The Desert Song, and Chicago.

As a fight choreographer/captain and movement director, she has worked on such shows as The Twelve Chairs (Embassy Theatre), Ricky Riddlegang and the Riddlegang (New Wimbledon Theatre/Brighton Fringe/Edinburgh Fringe), Ashes (Teatro Technis), Noise (The Others), and Goodsuppas (Proud Embankment), and Macbeth (Willow Globe).

Sophia made her West End debut as a dancer and lyricist in the 2021 London Climate Change Festival inaugural concert: Song For Nature, filmed by Sky Arts at the London Coliseum with the English National Opera Orchestra.

Sophia’s original film, Always Alice, was given Honorable Mention at the 2021 International Vienna Film Awards.
