Drawing on material from the world of Jazz and Blues, our Jazz & Blues Singing Lessons - Intermediate are open to those who have completed any Singing - Improvers course and who wish to further their skills while focusing on Jazz and Blues music.
Jazz is a genre of music that is a truly great way to explore singing by way of improvisation, vocal dexterity and a creative way of performing. Whether you are a Frank Sinatra fan or delve more into the likes of powerhouses like Aretha Franklin and the vocal dexterity of Ella Fitzgerald, our courses will help you gain confidence in ensemble singing by exploring this genre of music in a holistic way.
These singing classes will cover areas such as ear training and rhythm awareness, jazz vocal language, performance qualities and overall engage in a better understanding of musicianship as a singer. The course will culminate in an informal showcase of individual solos and group ensemble.
What will be taught on Jazz & Blues Singing Lessons - Intermediate?
The course will cover a range of carefully selected material to ensure it is challenging, varied, and above all, enjoyable.
Course content will include:
- Developing a deepened knowledge of the jazz and blues genre.
- Extensive vocal warm-ups and introducing more advanced singing technique and technical terminology.
- Exploring challenging ensemble work with a focus on harmony, musicianship and dynamics.
- Solo Masterclasses - focusing on acting through song and musicianship skills with personal feedback about vocal technique, performance and style.
- Performing in an informal showcase at the end of the course.

Entry requirements and level of this course?
This course is suitable for those who have completed an Improvers course and/or prepared to sing from memory.
Students must possess an understanding of their voice, have previous singing experience and confidence in singing solo.
The ability to hear notes and sing them back as well as good spoken and written english is required.
How will I be taught?
Intermediate courses are taught within groups and also incorporate solo masterclasses. Each week will begin with a thorough vocal warm up before going on to develop and apply key vocal techniques and approaches to develop your confidence and singing skills.
Students will have the opportunity to sing a broad range of repertoire each week. Your voice will grow in strength and flexibility and you’ll gain a sense of control and confidence when singing. Best of all, you’ll have a lot of fun, and meet like-minded new people.
