Nigel trained as an actor at The Oxford School of Drama, graduating in 2011. Since then he has taken on a wide range of roles alongside developing his own work as a theatre maker. He has starred in Jessica Swale’s revival of The Belle’s Stratagem, national tours of The Nutcracker, Carrie’s War, Blue Remembered Hills and King Arthur, as well as Christmas productions such as Story Pocket Theatre’s adaptation of The Jolly Christmas Postman.
In tandem with his work as a performer, Nigel is a prolific practitioner and theatre maker. He runs a number of theatre companies: 6FootStories, a touring company working with reworked Shakespeare, devised work and interactive entertainments; Dank Parish, a large-scale immersive theatre company; and Circus of Truths, an outdoor arts collective. He has devised and directed multiple touring productions, immersive theatrical venues and outdoor shows. Highlights would be his three-actor Macbeth: A Tale of Sound & Fury (6FootStories), immersive funeral parlour The Church of the Sturdy Virgin (Dank Parish), and outdoor sci-fi extravaganza The Complete Compendium of Human Culture (Circus of Truths/Green Man).
Pre-pandemic he trained yearly waves of students from Fourth Monkey in immersive theatre, and took them annually to leading music and arts festival BoomTown Fair. He is passionate about play and connection with the audience, and this is at the heart of the work he makes and the training he gives.
“I like to prepare students and actors for the “leap into the unknown” – an eagerness and readiness for spontaneity and play, that is equally important whether you’re interacting with an audience or working on heightened language. Play is where I start and end.”
