Flamenco Festive Intensive Course

Add some festive flair this season with our Festive Intensive Flamenco course. This 4-day intensive course focuses on choreography, bulerías and technique and is taught by renowned Dancers Carlos Quintana, Nuria Garcia and La Leal

In the course, you will learn coordination and movement of different parts of the body and consolidation of concepts which are fundamental for flamenco dance.

Level

This intensive course is open to all who are interested in progressing their Flamenco skills. We do recommend a basic knowledge of Flamenco steps so that you can make the most of this course.

HOW IS THIS COURSE STRUCTURED?

Depending on your level, you can take part in separate workshops with our Flamenco tutors, tailored to your skill level. 

10.00 - 11.30: Elementary with Carlos Quintana - Choreography & Technique, learn a unique flamenco dance Bulerias for beginners/Improvers

11:45 - 12:45: Bulerías Improvers/Elementary

1:30 - 2:30: Intermediate and Higher Intermediate with Carlos Quintana -  Choreography & Technique

2.30 - 3.30: Bulerias Intermediate with Carlos Quintana

10.00 - 11.30: with Nuria Garcia 

Beginners and Improvers

Learn to dance Sevillanas, be part of the community and join into all the festivals in Spain

ABOUT CARLOS QUINTANA

Guest Instructor Based in Madrid, Carlos has been dedicated to flamenco and expressive movement across various disciplines for years. For him, dance is the most authentic way to connect with others, expressing emotions and telling stories through movement.

Although primarily trained in flamenco, he enjoys exploring other styles and blending them to give his choreography and performances a unique touch.

Recently, he had the opportunity to be chosen as the principal dancer for an Apple ad campaign, an experience that drives him to keep growing and learning in the world of dance and everything related to performance.

ABOUT NURIA GARCIA

Nuria is Head Teacher and Artistic Director of our Flamenco department, in partnership with La Escuela de Baile, and primarily based in London, though she is a regular guest teacher at prestigious schools all over the world.  

She holds the Instructora de Baile qualification from the Sociedad de Baile Español (Spanish Dance Society).

As a child, Nuria attended a full time dance school and trained in Spain under some of the most revered teachers.

Nuria has danced in many top flamenco companies, including Paco Peña’s, Juan Martín’s, Fiesta Flamenca and Grupo de Jerez, touring extensively worldwide. For five years, Nuria worked in the avant-garde flamenco and contemporary performance group Von Magnet, which led to several television appearances.

Nuria has worked as head choreographer for numerous advertisements (including Sony and Nissan) and music videos (including Siouxsie and the Banshees, Miguel Gallardo, Robert Palmer and the Gipsy Kings). She has also choreographed for theatre and opera productions, including Harvey Goldsmith’s Carmen, Opera 80 (now the English Touring Opera) and most recently, ´Carmen´ for Diva Opera.  

WHAT IS MY FLAMENCO JOURNEY WITH CITY ACADEMY?

Curious about where to start, or not sure what level you are? 

All of our courses are in partnership with the London School of Flamenco, following the conservatory style training tradtional in Spain. 

Flamenco Beginners - For complete beginners to Flamenco, or those who a small amount of experience. 

Flamenco Improvers - This course is for anyone who has previously taken a beginners course.

Flamenco Elementary - This course is the next level up for students who have attended an Improvers level course.

Flamenco Higher Elementary - This course is for students who have been studying flamenco solidly for around 1.5 years, or have previously taken an Elementary level course.

Flamenco Lower Intermediate - This course is for students who have done at least 2 years or more.

Flamenco Higher Intermediate - A solid knowledge of flamenco and technique is needed to enter into this level, as the choreographies are more complex.

Flamenco Advanced - This class is for students who are advanced or at a professional level.

What should I wear to a Flamenco Class?

Beginners should wear comfortable clothes, preferably a flared skirt (women) or comfortable trousers (men) and a court shoe or shoe with a boot heel. 

Elementary students and above (women) should wear flamenco shoes and skirts, and men should wear flamenco boots and comfortable trousers.

All City Academy tutors are experienced professionals from theatre, film/TV and performance industries. So whilst they're training you they may also be rehearsing for a West End show or working on a movie. We like that and we do believe it makes a difference in class.
