Declan and Simon run City Academy’s Sitcom courses.
Together they produce The Sitcom Mission: an international sitcom writing competition which showcases the best submissions in front of experts from the British TV and radio comedy industry. Consequently they have a huge amount of experience assessing the strengths and weaknesses of a script, and love working with writers to help them develop their ideas. They have also co-written (with Jon Vorhaus) the best-selling eBook Your Sitcom Mission… Should You Choose To Accept It – a step by step guide to writing a sitcom.
As a stand-up comedian, Declan Hill has spent many years writing his own material, and has a great enthusiasm for – and understanding of – the creative processes and techniques. Simon Wright is an actor and has worked on a variety of sitcoms including Ricky Gervais’s Derek. This has given him further insight into the industry and an appreciation for how sitcom scripts are realised in performance. They are passionate tutors and enjoy discussing, dissecting and developing sitcoms with their students.

“Simon and Declan genuinely care about their subject. They always took an interest in us and it was obvious they wanted us to succeed. They were supportive, but at the same time were able to get us to see where we could make improvements to our own work”
