Kathleen Murphy

Kathleen Murphy

Kathleen Murphy originally trained in contemporary dance, and has an honours degree in Community Arts and a postgraduate diploma in Community Dance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Her love for teaching and creating inspiring dance projects for children, young people and adults has been the driving factor of her career to date.

Originally from Scotland, Kathleen discovered swing dancing after moving to London, and now focuses her dance passion in Lindy Hop, Charleston and solo Jazz. She enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for teaching swing at UK festivals and abroad.

Kathleen has travelled to teach dance for international charities. She has worked with Epic Arts, Cambodia, leading inclusive swing dancing workshops for children, young people and adults with and without disabilities, and choreographed Lindy Hop for Epic Encounters – South East Asia’s first fully inclusive contemporary performance company.

Not shy of performing, Kathleen has performed and competed with top London swing troupes including The Dinahs, Jazz MAD and The Skyliners.

As a highly experienced swing dance instructor with a playful approach to teaching, Kathleen focuses on groove, connection, developing the fundamentals of Lindy Hop and Charleston, and the skills of leading and following.
